Report
General Information:
The Euroworkshop on Statistical Modelling is a project which is sponsored by the European Commission ( CORDIS ) in the programme High Level Scientific Conferences. The workshop on Mixed Models was the first event in series of three workshops with the topics Mixed Models, Nonparametric Models and Model Diagnostics. The first event was also organized in cooperation with the Sonderforschungsbereich 386 at the Institute of Statistics, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Münich. To read more about entire project please follow this link. The series of workshops is also connected to the International Working Group on Statistical Modelling.
Topic:
In Mixed Models unobserved heterogeneity is modelled by random effects. This means that individual, latent effects are incorporated in a statistical model to mirror the reality. The Euroworkshop on Statistical Modelling - Mixed Models will focus on new theoretical developments, applications and computational issues of Mixed Models. Special emphasis will be given on bringing together different ideas, approaches and applications in biometry, economics and social science.
Keynote Speakers:
Murray Aitkin, University of Newcastle, UK
Dankmar Böhning, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany
Jim Booth, University of Florida, USA
David Clayton, MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge, UK
Geert Molenberghs, Limburgs Universitair Centrum, and Geert Verbeke, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium
Participants:
1/3 of the participants were young researchers supported by the European Commission. Follow this link to see get a list of participants .
Programme:
The programme was designed to have invited and contributed talks (slides of the talks are provided by following the link). Each session was completed with a discussion group (report on the discussion groups is available by following the link).
Publication:
As Special Issue edited by Friedl and Kauermann has appeared in Statistical Modelling: An International Journal Issue 4, 2001.
Reaction:
The Young Researches and other participants had in general positive opinions about the workshop (follow the link to read their reports).
Location:
The workshop will took place in Schloß Höhenried, Bernried near Munich, Germany. Schloß Höhenried is a Bavarian castle, located at the Starnberger See, the most famous outdoor recreational area of Munich.
